(Posted by: Street Ace on 2010-02-05 00:20:51)
A record 11 # one albums on the billboard surpasing Elvis presly/ The first rapper to not only perform @ madison Square but sell it out too/ The first and only rapper to perform, headline & sell out Glastonbury/ The 1st & only rapper to dine with the royal family @ bukingham palace England/ The rapper with the most pop culture influence ever, trend setting music genre combining eg with linkin park / The only rapper whoz been on stage with a beatle/ The rapper whoz won more grammys than all others dead or alive, The rapper who flows from the top of his head not writting rhymez like Nas & otherz/ his flow is variable extra fast to normal/ his approaching a billion $$$ using hip hop skills/ In history he stands as one of only three rappers with an album reaching diamond status the others being Pac & biggie/ most consistent rapper whoz crafted 5 certified all time classics/ all this from capital gained in hustling on the street. something Neither Nas nor 2pac did.) surely the real reason why you hate Jay Z is on this list, deep down you know it?? it eats you up lol |

His success and influence is undeniable. However, a lot of people feel that since his lyrical ability isn't particularly complex or amazing, he shouldn't be considered one of the greats of hip hop. Me personally, while I agree that he isn't as lyrical as someone like Nas, I still consider him as one of the greats for most of the reasons that you stated. (Though you did make up some of those statistics. Jay-Z doesn't have a diamond album. He wasn't the first to venture into the rock genre. Numerous rappers have done it before such as Run DMC, Public Enemy, Ice Cube, etc. And he made the vast majority of his money through his business ventures, not his music) |

I wouldn't say i hate jay-z but his music does nothing for me anymore! reasonable doubt was amazing! it was real shit! but u said it yourself a few times, hes a sell out! 11 number one albums means fuck all if your not writing whats true to yourself and keeping it real! blueprint 3? that was terrible, probably worse than before i self destruct, black album? that was a number one commercial album, every song was written for a commercial audience and a real hip hop listener isn't going to like it. same with blueprint 2. and kingdom come was almost as bad as blueprint 3. but the music he made SOLD! any song he made was a hit really because he listened to the industry and wrote shit that wasn't true to him but it made him money! compare him to nas who had their beef over the years, nas didn't sell out, whatever people might tell you. his lyrics on untitled were brilliant for the most part! ya his song hero did well commercially but if you really listen to what hes saying you see what hes on about, hes talking about the music industry and how they control what you spit! My lawyers only see the Billboard Charts as winning Forgetting, Nas the only true Rebel since the beginning Still in musical prison, in jail for the flow Try telling Bob Dylan, Bruce {Springsteen} or Billy Joel they can't sing what's in they soul So untitled it is I never change nothing! But people remember this, If Nas can't say it think about these talented kids With new ideas being told of what they can and can't spit I can't sit and watch it So shit I'ma drop it! Like it or not |

As for other rappers its because they just gotta hate to get better attention to themselves ESPECIALLY if they are trying to get some thug or gang image going which is quite moronic really because the reality is gangs arent cool how their made out to be. Its just people with guns who kill other people so they can give money to the highest in command without realizing they are being used. But in the rap market it makes more moeny because its more entertaining. If someones got been with Jay-Z they will rap about it and whatnot trying to make more money for themselves causing attention to themselves. Its fine for someone to have thier own opinions because yes, it is understandable not everyone will like him. It may also be true that because hes so pop that might make him to not seem so edgy or anything. I like the guy but I havent heard a huge amount of songs from him that were deep, not saying they all arent like that because some are, but the ones that are still are quite simple in content. |

Like "spice tha thumbs up giver " said: You made up a vast number of those statistics. Jay Z's highest certification was 5x platinum (Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life) which is HALF of a diamond album(also Big & Pac are NOT the only two rappers with a diamond selling album (Will Smith, Outkast, and Run DMC among others also have one). He also has NOT won the most grammys as a rapper, isn't the first to venture into rock music, Doesn't rap off the dome (the only way HE'S rappin' without writin' is if someone else wrote it!), AND has only a networth of about 520$ million. He's quite a ways from 1 billion. Its not like he makes his big money from music anyway. |

Like Nas said "I don't believe in none of that s**t your facts are backwards. " Jay-Z has accomplished a lot and any who doubts that is a fool. But He is not as lyrical as a Nas. Jay-Z goes off the top of the head, or so he says. Jay-Z goes on stage with a beatle. Jay-Z this or that. It doesn't matter at the end of the day. What matters is what you bring back to the hood. If you stay true to the streets. When J first came in the game he was doing the damn thing, but now he's just turned pop. Simple and plain. He left all of his homies in the dust i.e Beanie Sigel, Jaz-O, Freeway, etc. You can't look at Jay-Z at this point in time as a Top MC. Granted of all time maybe, but as of lately, his flame is flickering. Nas tops Jay-Z as far as lyrics hands down. *ether* cough cough. J is an icon and I have respect for the dude, I Don't hate him but at the end of the day what does his success have to do with being a real lyrical MC? |

He's a biter pure and simple. He bit Big Daddy Kane, Jaz O, Notorious BIG. . . It's one thing to do it once or twice, but all the time like he does? Secondly, he's washed up as an MC. He can still rap, but he's no where near as good as he could be. Thirdly, he sold out for the money. He admits to it on the Black Album. Jay-Z isn't nearly as influential as you think. I think the biggest reason people hate Jay-Z is because of you and others like you. I'm gonna break down why he's not great according to the reasons you gave. 1) Popularity has nothing to do with skills. If that were true, Lil Wayne would be better then Rakim. 2) Who cares about Madison Square, they only gave him that spot because they knew he could sell tickets 3) What's Glastonbury? Honestly, who cares? It just means people who have no idea about rap, headlined him, and his fans from England bought the tickets 4) Fu*k the Royal Family. Again, how does that make him any better a musician/ rapper/ producer 5) Pop culture has nothing to do with rap or rapping ability. Neither do Lincoln Park 6) The Beatles might have good music, but they single handedly destroyed rock (overly commercialized it), just as Jay-Z is doing now 7) Grammies? Really? So your saying Lil Wayne is better than Tupac? 8) First of all, nothing is wrong with writing rhymes. Secondly Lil Wayne don't write sh*t either. Thirdly DMX doesn't write, and rhymes better than either one. Writing rhymes just proves you care about what you're doing and are willing to take time to perfect your craft 9) Jay-Z hasn't fast-rapped since '94 when he dumbed his lyrics down and sold out. Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap and Jaz-O all did it before him and Bone Thugs, Twista, and Tech N9ne do it better 10) No. Jay-Z approached $1 Billion using business skills, there's a difference 11) Again with the popularity contests 12) Percee P and Kool G Rap are FAR more consistent. Jay-Z used to be variable as ever and is now just boring 13) How does hustlin have anything to do with rappin ability? |
